2026–2027

| Early June | Write a draft of your main paper (the entire thing). Schedule a meeting with your advisors in June to discuss paper draft. |
| ~mid-June | Provide first draft of your paper to your committee and meet to discuss. |
| Now to mid-August | Work on CV. Make an appointment with MCS to work on a resume. Sign up to give a Fall presentation, before end of Sept. |
| ~July 29 (week of) | Create a webpage. |
| ~Aug 5 (week of) | Professional photos for your website. |
| Early Aug. | Talk with advisor(s) to confirm whether you should be on the market. If "yes," confirm with those to be added to your CV as references. |
| August | Sign up to present Job Market Talk in September within the department. |
| Sept. through Nov. | Consult JOE (Job Openings for Economists), AEA website, EJM, and other job board sites. Finalize your job market paper to post. Check deadlines carefully as JOE and EJM often don't have latest ones. |
| Early to Mid Sept. | Schedule group committee meeting with advisors as needed; register for AEA meeting if attending. Meet with advisor(s) about paper(s) and placement. |
| ~end of Oct. | Job Placement Website goes live. Job Market papers must be posted to website. |
| Oct.–Nov. (before last wk) | Upload packets to listings in JOE and places advertising elsewhere. Coordinate with faculty assistants about letters of reference. |
| Early Nov. | Some tech-sector, private firm, and international organization interviews may be held this early. |
| ~Nov. 30 to Dec. 5 | Mock interviews with faculty. |
| Early to mid-Dec. | Recruitment chairs and admins will arrange remote interviews with you. |
| Dec. to early Jan. | Work on slides, polish presentation, do lots of additional mock interviews with friends and others. |
| Early January, 2026 | Some interviews (academic and non-academic) will be held remotely on these days. |
